Kid pusteblume The upcoming edition of the Blog Carnival "Recovery from sexual abuse" will cover SELF LOVE as an important aspect of recovery and healing. Contributions are invited that explore the meaning and importance of self love, the difficulties people encounter in their attempt to love all parts of themselve, and how they achieve self love. On Children: Kahlil Gibran

Kahlil-gibran-drawing-archer-living-arrows Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

I love this poem! It so clearly affirms the rights of children to find their own future unhindered and unharmed from other people's thoughts and actions. Do you like it too?

Santa is coming

KrippeWe celebrate Christmas in honour of the birth of baby Jesus. In that spirit we celebrate and express our joy towards children and the promise they bring to our lives.

Many children – especially children and grown-up people who end up reading this blog and are on the way to recovery from sexual abuse – did not have joyous memories of Christmas. Instead, some may have memories of hurt, fear, and hardship.

I thought I wanted to remind readers of the origin of Christmas. Lets celebrate the wonder, life force, spontaneity, creativity, fun, love, innocence and generosity that is inherent in children. Inner children as much as children in your outside life.

What’s When You Have A Gay Part?

Gay couple I have often experienced that a multiple has parts that are gay. As a matter of fact, I don’t think there are many people who are either 100% heterosexual or 100% gay. Most people can be located somewhere on a continuum between <gay and straight>.

I can imagine that it feels more absolute and set in concrete for a multiple, because you don’t have instant access to the feelings of all your other parts.

Everyone – multiple or not – has to manage their feelings and attractions. If you or a part of you is attracted to a person of the same sex, what are the consequences of acting on that attraction? If you think it’s alright, you might have a wonderful relationship ahead of you. Managing these attractions, processing with your whole system what it means to have a same sex partner, and getting the support from people around you, is something that can be discussed and practiced in therapy.
